Did you know?
The concepts and ideas used in lean manufacturing are not new. In fact most of the ideas can be traced back many decades and sometimes centuries. If we look at the evolution of mankind, all of the tools developed in ancient time were done so for one reason – to make better use of the available resources. Today, labour and money are the two most talked about resources, I’m sure in ancient times these were not the dominating issues, however time and the strength of the hunter would have been.
Imagine when the first knife was used many thousands of years ago. What a breakthrough moment! That person went from tearing to cutting, from beating to stabbing. Wow, what a change in process!
Continuous Improvement is an instinct…
Just like we have instincts to control fight or flight, reproduction, breathing and others, we (humans) have an instinct that makes continuous improvement a natural part of our lives. It is one of the things that separates us from other animals.
So next time you have a difficult time convincing someone about the benefits of going lean or continuous improvement remember this…
